Après quoi, on ôte l’aubier, c'est-à-dire toute la partie ligneuse, tendre et blanchâtre qui se trouve entre le cœur du tronc et l’écorce. L’aubier est ensuite étendu sur le sol bien horizontal, découpé en minces bandes et martelé au moyen d’un maillet en bois dur. On obtient alors un feutre végétal, solide et souple d’une surface double par rapport à celle de l’aubier initial. Les bandes sont ensuite collées ensemble pour en faire un tissu large et résistant. Aussi pour conserver longtemps les vêtements, les tissus étaient renforcés en cousant plusieurs épaisseurs, ou en pratiquant un matelassage ou encore en les ravaudant au moyens de rangées serrées de points droits .<br />
Les tissus étaient le plus souvent teints à l’indigo, aussi utilisait-on du fil blanc pour faire ressortir les coutures du vêtement, devenues une véritable broderie avec des dessins de formes géométriques ou bien inspirés de la nature (feuilles, fleurs, animaux).<br />
Cet art populaire irait chercher son inspiration dans le Shintô, la plus ancienne religion du Japon, selon laquelle tous les objets ont une âme. Chacun se devait donc de prolonger la vie des objets et c'est le cas notamment les vêtements.</strong></span></span></div><br />

<b><span style="font-size: small;">En Afrique, les tissus en raphia avec des parties en velours sont de tradition ancienne et étaient utilisés comme monnaie d’échange. La majorité provient du royaume kuba situé le long du fleuve Kasaï dans le bassin du Congo.Les Kuba sont réputés pour leurs talents artistiques, notamment les sculptures, les effigies royales en ivoire aux coiffures caractéristiques, les masques et leurs arts décoratifs sur tissus. Cette créativité artistique exceptionnelle a toujours été encouragée par les souverains esthètes qui se sont succédés jusqu’à la mort du dernier roi Mbopey en 1969.Les tissus de raphia des peuples Kuba sont issus d’une tradition textile remontant au 12<sup>ème</sup> siècle en Afrique Centrale. L’art du textile jouissait d’une telle réputation que les habitants de Mushenge, la capitale du royaume Kuba (cité interdite aux étrangers) reçurent de leurs voisins le nom de <i>Bambala,</i> c’est à dire « peuple du tissu ».</span><span style="font-size: small;"> Le matériau de base pour les tissus Kuba est fourni par le palmier-raphia qu'on trouve partout dans le pays.La membrane principale prélevée sur les jeunes feuilles est transformée en fibres par découpage et effilage; les fils sont ensuite en partie torsadés et battus. La teinture est extraite de racines d'arbres.</span></b></div>

<b><span style="font-size: small;">La préparation des fis de raphia et le tissage sont l'affaire exclusive des hommes, qui travaillent assis devant des métiers inclinés rudimentaires à une seule lisse tels qu’on les trouve dans toute l’Afrique Centrale. Plus la fibre est fine, plus le tissage est serré et solide. Les tissages sont effectués sur des grandes longueurs (2 à 4 mètres) destinées à entourer la taille pour constituer un pagne. Par contre la broderie est l’affaire des femmes.</span></b></div>

<b><span style="font-size: small;">La technique de l’appliqué consiste à fixer entre elles des pièces avec des points de broderie dans des rangées simples ou doubles. caractérisés par leur simplicité et leur élégance. Les hommes portent
la derâa et la femme la melhfa.
Les melhfas représentent un travail de teinture sur de fins tissus
transparents de 4 à 5m de longueur et de 1,5m de large que les
femmes entourent autour du corps.
La melhfa doit couvrir tout le corps de la tête aux pieds, sans même
laisser apparaître les cheveux.
Cet habit féminin qui protège à la fois du froid, du sable et du soleil
se porte toute l’année.
Toutes les melhfas ne sont pas identiques. Il y a celles qui se portent
pour les grandes occasions familiales et religieuses, celles que les
femmes sahraouies mettent chez elle, celles portées par les jeunes filles
et celles portées par les femmes mariées.
Ces vêtements traditionnels peuvent prendre plusieurs couleurs unies
ou imprimés illustrés de nombreux
motifs. Ils sont portés sur des robes.
Selon l'âge, la condition sociale, le lieu et le moment, les femmes ne
portent pas la même melhfa et en jouent beaucoup avec en faisant
preuve de grande coquetterie. Le rose est souvent la première
melhfa des jeunes filles. Les femmes riches portent surtout de la soie,
les autres de condition modeste utilisent le voile en nylon.
En brousse les femmes utilisent surtout du voile teinté "nyla" c'est-à-dire
en bleu indigo.
Aux pieds, la femme met des babouches ou nâayel et pour les cérémonies
familiales et les fêtes des bijoux en argent.
L’engouement des mauritaniennes pour cet habit traditionnel
favorise le développement de la fabrication locale réputée pour

Les Bamiléké et les Bamoun constituent les groupes culturels les plus importants dans cette région fertile dénommée Grassland. </div><div class="MsoNormal" style="color: #4c1130; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><b><span style="font-size: small;">La fabrication des n’dop suit un itinéraire étonnant : </span></b></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="color: #4c1130; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: justify;"><b><span style="font-size: small;">- le coton, est récolté au nord dans la région de Garoua où son filage se fait manuellement. Egalement des motifs géométriques pouvant se rapporter à des scarifications, des ornements d’architecture et de mobiliers.( cercles, croix, carrés, triangles, losanges). <span style="font-size: 100%;">Le bogolan <span style="font-style: italic;">« tissu-terre ».</span> en bambara est une technique de teinture , consistant à créer sur le tissu en coton, préalablement tissé en bandes étroites puis cousues, des motifs en utilisant une boue spéciale.<br />La première étape consiste à faire tremper les pièces de tissus dans une préparation à base de feuilles et d’écorces, celle-ci communique au textile une première coloration d’un jaune orangé fixée grâce à l’acidité de la préparation. Les pièces une fois séchées, sont prêtes à recevoir la teinture à la boue. La boue utilisée est ramassée dans des marécages. On la fait fermenter dans des pots jusqu’à qu’elle devienne une pâte noire.<br />De petits bâtons de bambou sont utilisés pour dessiner avec cette pâte, à main levée, le tracé général du décor. Ce travail minutieux peut prendre plusieurs semaines. Puis, le tissu est mis à sécher au soleil jusqu’à ce que la pâte craquelle. Il est alors lavé dans une solution de potasse faite avec la cendre du bois de baobab et révèle une variété de tons noirs et jaune orangés.<br /><span style="font-style: italic;">Le Bogolan présenté ci-dessus est l'oeuvre de Boubacar DOUMBIA, artiste vivant à Ségou, au Mali, où il a créé une école d’art. Les motifs présentés relèvent de l’écriture allégorique traditionnelle bambara.</span></span></div>
